If conservative treatments for an ingrowing toenail have failed, your doctor may recommend surgery.
Performed under local anaesthetic, the procedure is straightforward and involves removing part, or in some cases, the whole of the affected toenail. An additional procedure is then performed to the nail matrix to stop the nail or part of the nail from regrowing.
You will be required to rest the foot and keep the area bandaged to reduce the risk of infection for the first few days after surgery.
